Home Laundry

All garments can be cleaned in GreenEarth® because it’s mild and gentle. However, here are some home laundry tips if you can’t make it to one of our many GreenEarth® stores.

  1. Always wash at the lowest temperature possible to avoid colour loss and shrinkage.
  2. Smaller loads mean a more effective clean.
  3. Using the half load and short cycle functions on your machine will mean you’ll use less water and electricity.
  4. Always separate your colours and whites.
  5. Choose the right detergent for your laundry, being aware of ingredients such as optical brighteners & bleaching agents.

Tumble Drying

  1. If you can dry your clothes outside, even if they’re just part dry, then great.
  2. Drying overnight in a larger ventilated space avoids excess moisture in your home and clutter.
  3. Using a tennis ball in a dryer can make your clothes & fabrics fluffier.
  4. Always dry towels and heavier cottons in a separate load from lighter-weight clothes, it will save energy.
  5. Empty the condenser water container in your machine if you have one & clear the lint screen after every use, to make your dryer more effective.
  6. NEVER leave anything in your dryer for too long after the cycle has finished. Doing so, can cause fires.

Ironing

  1. You don’t have to iron everything! Shaking clothes out before drying and hanging them carefully can reduce energy and save time!
  2. Make sure that stains have come out completely before ironing. Ironing onto them can set them in for good.
  3. Turning your clothes inside out when ironing them can prevent any colour fading caused by heat.
  4. Try to find the lowest temperature on your iron as possible that can iron your clothes. It will make clothes last longer and reduce the energy used.
  5. When using an iron that isn’t yours, placing a towel between the item and the iron can avoid any unexpected scorch marks or stains.

Gentle Care

  1. Bag the bag – once you get your clothes back from the Dry Cleaners, take them out of the polyrobe to avoid a build up of moisture – they can also double up as a bin bag if you tie a knot in the bottom!
  2. Use lavender in your wardrobe and drawers to keep moths away from your clothes – they hate it!
  3. Try stuffing your handbags with bubble wrap to keep them in shape. Newspaper and tissue can attract moths and the ink may stain the inside of the bag if left for a long time.
